Frequently asked questions
FAQ
What is Generative AI (GenAI) vs. Artificial Intelligence (AI)?
Generative AI (GenAI) is a new and powerful category within the broader field of Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI encompasses any technique that allows machines to mimic human intelligence, while GenAI specifically uses generative modeling approaches to create new content such as text, images, or code. This sets it apart from traditional AI systems that simply analyze or classify existing data. GenAI's ability to generate novel content opens up transformative possibilities for new AI applications.
What is SurePath AI?
SurePath AI is a network-level governance platform for workforce GenAI use. We intercept and monitor interactions with public AI services (like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, ie), enable secure public and private AI adoption, and apply your policies across all GenAI tools. Our platform ensures responsible AI use without hindering productivity.
Why would I use SurePath AI when I already have a SASE platform like Zscaler or NetSkope deployed?
SASE platforms are great for basic allow/block operations, but GenAI requires a more nuanced approach. Here's why SurePath AI enhances your SASE solution:
- We prevent Shadow AI: Blocking services often pushes users to personal devices or accounts. We offer a better way.
- We're a specialized policy engine: We integrate tightly with SASE clients to govern GenAI traffic specifically.
- We provide deeper insights: Gain visibility into GenAI use across your organization.
- We mitigate risks: Apply fine-tuned policies to secure GenAI interactions.
- We ease adoption: Our breadth of governance across public and private models enable policies that don't stop adoption.
SurePath AI doesn't replace your SASE platform—we enhance it, giving you the control you need for responsible GenAI use.
Does SurePath AI integrate with my existing security solution?
Yes! We offer several methods for integration. Most of our customers prefer our integration via a SASE provider, such as Zscaler or Netskope. SASE platforms make for a very easy integration since they are deployed on the endpoints themselves and can direct generative AI traffic to the SurePath AI platform. We also offer integrations using proxies and proxy chaining as well as DNS redirection (reflection), destination NAT, and secure web gateways.
Does SurePath AI help me train or host custom or private models?
Not today. While SurePath AI doesn’t host private models or help train custom models, SurePath AI provides integrations to the platforms that do such as AWS Bedrock, Azure, Google Vertex, OpenAI, and more. This allows the secure use and rapid distribution of your private models through SurePath AI.
Is OWASP enough to manage workforce adoption of generative AI?
No, OWASP primarily focuses on external threats and application security, leaving significant gaps when it comes to workforce adoption of generative AI. While the OWASP Top 10 for Large Language Model (LLM) Applications covers risks like prompt injection and sensitive information disclosure, it does not address critical concerns such as employee data privacy, shadow AI usage, role-based access, or cost management of AI tools. Organizations need a broader governance strategy to ensure responsible and secure workforce AI adoption. Read more in our blog.
Does an enterprise LLM provide enough visibility into workforce GenAI usage?
No, enterprise LLMs may offer security controls, but they lack the detailed visibility needed to truly understand how employees are using GenAI. Without insight into which services employees access, what data they share, and potential risks, companies cannot effectively manage GenAI adoption. Visibility enables organizations to assess risks, refine policies, and optimize AI usage without stifling productivity. Read more in our blog.
